16 / 20v 4age – Oil pressure upgrade kit

A cheap and simple kit to raise the oil pressure on all 4AGE and 7AFE oil pumps. Unlike the method of shimming the original spring this kit won’t limit the minimum amount the pressure relief piston can slide open which could potentially cause an over pressure problem at high revs.

Suggested for anyone holding the engine in the upper end of the rev range, running an engine oil cooler or running a higher than original RPM limit.

Product information

– Supplied is a secondary spring that fits in the middle of the original oil pumps internal pressure control spring . After installation both springs work in conjunction with each other to increase the total spring rate pushing against the oil pressure control piston. None of the OEM parts are replaced with this kit.

– The total oil pressure increase with the installation of this secondary upgrade spring alone is approximately 25%. Installing an additional shim / washer will increase the spring rate and hence oil pressure further again. The resulting oil pressure is dependant on many factors, see below for more information.

Additional information

– The engines oil pressure is controlled by a spring loaded piston inside the oil pump which when subjected to sufficient pressure on it’s top face from the main oil gallery feed will slide downwards to expose the relief hole. This relief hole allows the excess oil to bleed off and return to the oil pan and hence control the overall oil pressure.

– Some of the factors that affect the final oil pressure are various engines clearances, the type of oil being used, if the engine has oil squirters and / or an oil cooler fitted, engine temperature, etc…

– After installation it’s suggested to check the final oil pressure throughout the rev range. If both the upgrade spring and a pre-load shim is fitted then this step is highly suggested.

– This product is directly referenced off a kit that was once sold by the company HKS. The reason we had no ethical issues in replicating their concept and using their spring specifications is because they had long since discontinued their own product and hence wouldn’t in any way be negatively effected by us doing so. This is the only product that we offer that has any part of it directly copied from another aftermarket company.
