7a / 4age- Exhaust side alternator bracket

This custom bracket facilitates the mounting of either a 16 or 20V 4age model alternator down low on the exhaust side of the engine. The Alternator is mounted such that it is driven by the inner row of the crank pulley.

 

Applications

– Clearance: There are a few cases where the alternator will not clear other components when fitted to it’s original mounting position. For example with a rear wheel drive water pump and any of the front wheel drive mounting brackets. Or another is where on some of the Clubman vehicles the steering shaft fits very close to the engine block on the intake side of the engine and it will not clear the alternator when mounted into it’s original position.

– Wiring: Mounting the Alternator low on the exhaust side of the engine makes for a very short and direct cable path. The result being a neater install and with a lower voltage drop. Also for those doing a 4Ac to 4AGE upgrade the main charge cable will require no modification to suit.

– Weight reduction: This bracket and tensioner is significantly lighter than the original cast iron bracket assembly and holds the weight of it and the alternator much lowered down making for a more favourable center of gravity.

– Appearance: With the alternator mounted so low and close to the block the engine looks neat and simplified.

– 4agze alternator replacement (SOME APPLICATIONS ONLY): 4agze engines have an alternator and matching bracket that is unique to it. These alternators are very difficult to almost impossible  to find second hand. Using our bracket a common 4age model can be potentially used instead pending the application. IMPORTANT NOTE- see the section further down under compatibility for use on this model of engine before purchasing.

 

Compatibility

– Engine block: The main bracket itself can be fitted to any A-series block from the 2A, 4A to the 7A. It has a step in it to fit over the OEM 4A rear wheel drive steel block to rubber engine mount bracket. If this isn’t used then a simple optional 5mm can be fitted under the end instead. The tensioning bracket however is not compatible with a 7afe engine block. The base of the tensioning bracket bolts to two bosses high near the front of the engine. One of these is missing on the 7A block. The tensioner base bracket can be modified or another type of tensioner self made in it’s place. For this reason this product is available with the option to purchase the main bracket individually.

– 4AZGE engines: For those with a 4AGZE engine the factory fitted bracket holds the alternator to originally use the front row of the main crank pulley. Using this bracket the rear row of the crank pulley is used instead. If the supercharger is kept in place then there likely isn’t enough belt wrap around the main crank pulley to avoid any slip. Therefore it’s only suggested for those who have removed the supercharger, for example such as a turbocharged setup. Also this only suits 4age type alternators, not the original 4agze nor 4afe or 7afe models.

– Other engine accessories: This will not suit any engine that has the original brackets for either the air-conditioning compressor or the power steering pump.

 

Additional options

– Tensioning bracket: Purchase just the main mounting bracket or when selection the tensioning bracket system is also included.

– Engine mount spacer: An additional supplied spacer for when one does not wish to use the original engine mount bracket. Leave a note in the comments during the checkout to request this additional spacer. Note- Subject to stock availability.
